Welcome! This blog shares my two major food passions: making delicious food and the stories behind what we eat. I love to eat, and to make food that others will love to eat. I enjoy the history and origins of our modern palette, I love to buy vintage cook books at book fairs and am steadily cooking and blogging my way through New Zealand’s food bible, the Edmond’s cookbook.
My name is Allie and I am lucky enough to call Wellington, Aotearoa-New Zealand my home. Despite being little, our lovely city is a veritable haven for the food and drink-minded. I live in a cute little 1960’s house with my geek husband and our two rescue cats. We have a deeply unruly garden and are surrounded by birds, trees and the general sound of the ‘burbs, such as lawnmowers and dogs. I am thirty-something, a social policy analyst, total softie and a crochet beginner.
When I began this blog in April 2013 it was without much direction except the knowledge that I liked cooking and writing.  We had just suffered a miscarriage and I was looking to fill up my sense of aching and longing with a blog. Sometimes it’s lucky we don’t know what the future has in store – nearly six years on and we are still on the fertility journey. Over this time I have learnt to nurture and refine my passions, including food and this blog. I hope to share something of this with you.
